Make an Appointment at Amarillo Children's Dentistry
Before your Visit:
Children should see a dentist six months after their first tooth erupts. You can help us make your child’s first visit to the dentist enjoyable and positive. Your child should be informed of the visit and told the dentist will count their teeth. It is best if you do not use words that might cause unnecessary fear, such as shot, needle, pull, drill, or hurt. We will explain procedures using words that are non-frightening to your child. Please keep in mind that this is a new experience for your child and shedding a few tears is not uncommon.
If your child is 4 years or older, we ask that you permit them to go with our staff on their own through the dental visit. We are highly skilled and have years of experience in helping children overcome anxiety. Separation anxiety is not unusual in children, so please try not to be concerned if you child exhibits some fearful behavior. This behavior is normal and should diminish. Studies and experience have shown that most children over the age of 3 react more positively when they experience the dental appointment without the distraction of a family member. If we feel a parent’s presence maybe helpful, we will ask you to come with your child.
If any additional treatment is necessary after your first appointment, we will review the treatment plan and any available radiographs with you. A treatment plan will be given to you as well as an estimate for the procedures. We will then schedule an appointment for a later date to complete necessary treatment.
